BTS comeback

BTA are now releasing a new album, which means they have a whole new concept for this. All of the members dyed their hair black, because the concept is supposed to be a dark one.

So far, they have released two teaser trailers, the first one was released on May 14th, with over 9 million views. The second trailer was more recent, May 16th, with over 8 million views already.

This concept is different than usual, Last Comeback was pure and soft, and this is more dark. They also released a video of the member Taehyung having a solo song called “Singularity.” This got a lot of attention because it was our first look into what’s to come.

They are also preparing for a tour around the world, like usual, the tickets are already sold out almost everywhere due to the smaller venues they picked. They limited some fans by only allowing people 16 and over into the pit. Soon, they will release more tour dates, but for now everything is sold out in America.

The new album, Love Yourself Tear, is basically a continuous part, with their last album being Love Yourself Her. There will be a third album since they both have 4 versions. Love Yourself Her, Covering Love, and Love Yourself Tear with Your. The next album is Covering Self.

Love Yourself Tear was released May 18th, and so was the music video of their title track, “Fake Love.” The idea of the music video is that all love is fake; that there’s no such thing as love. The music video is also linked to their older videos, meaning it has references for the fans to theorize about.
This album has 11 tracks:

1. “Intro: Singularity”
2. “Fake Love”
3. “전하지 못한 진심” (feat. Steve Aoki)
4. “134340”
5. “낙원”
6. “Love Maze”
7. “Magic Shop”
8. “Airplane pt. 2”
9. “Anpanman”
10. “So What”
11. “Outro: Tear”

This list was released early, to get fans excited, along with member RM stating his favorite song. This time, there was no break in the album, usually there is a skit, or one track where it’s not a song.

Overall, I like the concept of this album; they are kind of going back to their older concepts in a way, but making it better. It has been awhile since we’ve seen them with dark hair like this, and fans are very happy about it.

College?

Young male thinking, looking at blackboard – Just add your texthttp://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o144/mattjea/blackboard.jpg

High school is coming to a rapid end, which means college is right around the corner for many seniors. However, for some students, graduation is a temporary, or permanent, end of their academic journey.

Earlier this month, many students declared where they’d be spending the next four years, however, there are others who do not have the intention of going to college. In today’s society, the value, and necessity, of education is considered extremely critical, which brings to question: What are the benefits of not going college, or taking a gap year?

The first obvious reason for not attending college is finance. Collegeraptor.com states that “Studies show that attendance of a private four-year college could cost up to $46,000, and the cost of attendance for a public four year could potentially cost up to 36 thousand.” It is no secret that college is expensive, and student debt can have a greater negative impact on your future then not having a degree. Also, “student debt is at an all-time high, higher than credit card debt” according to pbs.org. The financial burden and potential harm to your future finances, in terms of student debt, is a risk that students attending college must face. In addition to debt, the chances of finding a job post-graduation have decreased. According to an article on the University of Washington’s website, “approximately 50% of college students are unemployed or working in a position which does not require a degree.”

The college system seem to have become a system built to cheat students out of money: requiring young adults to take out large loans, that they are then later not able to pay off. The financial burden of college needs to be carefully examined, however, students who aren’t attending college, are relieved of this burden, which is a primary and major reason as to why to not attend college.

Another reason why students aren’t attending college is preparation. The lack of preparation, within the current education system, for the future evident. For Abdullaziz Munye, a current senior at Highland, preparation is a key factor in his decision to join the workforce. “The problem is that students are taught to work with their hands in school.”

Abdulaziz plans on working as an apprentice carpenter this fall. “I do plan on going to school in the future, however, as of right now, I want to chase my passion in carpentering.”

Abdullaziz continues to discuss the reason in which he came to his decision, along with the stigma that is placed on students who choose not to attend college. The argument is that college does not prepare us any more than high school does, although college provides us with a lot more spare time than high school. The majority of this spare time will be spent in libraries studying.

The constraints that college puts on building ourselves rather than becoming “corporate clones” are obvious. Students are going to college just to be able to add something on to their resume and find a job, but where is the passion? Why are we told that we will find ourselves during our college years if there isn’t any real chance of growth and development, and instead a rather high chance of having more student loans than job offers.

In an article for the Huffington Post, Michael Price writes “Spending 4+ years pursuing a college education in this day and age when the world is changing at the speed of light is not only silly, it’s absolute insanity! Since I dropped out of college and started my career half a decade before my peers, I’m 5 years ahead of the game, plus I have zero debt. No student loans for me.”

College has always been pressured as a necessity, however, it’s obvious in our day and age, that many people can be successful without a degree. Along with the fact that the college environment isn’t built for everyone. The concept of college is particular to each person, and some people want or need to go to college in order to pursue their dream. However, college shouldn’t be viewed as the only way to achieve success.

Senior Vs. Staff basketball game

The Senior vs. Staff basketball game took action on Friday, May 18th. This game was a way to keep the seniors and teachers blood flowing as we close off this school year! The game took place during 7th hour & before the game started, the senior side in the stands filled at a rapid rate. The seniors were guaranteed to win the basketball game to show the staff who’s boss and that’s what ended up happening.

Highland Park Senior High hosts an event called the Senior vs. Staff basketball game every year. It’s a moment for the students to show the staff who’s in charge and for the staff to show the seniors what they’re made of. With the help of the Senior Class Council, they helped organize the whole game. Each half was 16 minutes. There are a total of six teams with 5 people per team. Every few minutes there would be a rotation so everyone would be able to participate.

Since there were rotations, everyone had the opportunity to show what they could do, and to prove that the seniors rule the school.

After the first half ended, the Senior Class Council introduced a halftime shooting game that lasted 3 minutes. One team was on the left side of the court while the other was on the right. Each team consisted of six people and the team with the most points at the end of the 3 minutes would win. So, the Senior Class Council took some initiative and picked 6 random people from the stands, and as an audience we all sat back and cheered for everyone. People got some water and were ready to be put back in the game.

Some of the things people liked about the game were the different skills some of the players carried. People even admitted that the staff had skills too, and were surprised when some of the seniors were getting crossed.

With all the hard work each and every player put in, the game ended with the staff winning: 59 to 58. We asked one of the staff what they thought about the game and one replied with, “I think the scoreboard is cheating, we scored more points than that.”

This is one of the events people get excited for because it’s exhilarating to watch and it’s always fun to cheer for your favorite player. Although no team gets bragging rights, this game was a close one and everybody’s a winner. #ClassOf’18
