Snapchat AI

By: Rose Ramadan and Thea Berg

The Snapchat AI has taken over many peoples snapchat accounts. It sits at the top of everyone’s screen, waiting for people to text it. It acts like a friend to us, but what really is it?

The Snapchat AI was generated online and put into Snapchat. It has its own bitmoji and named itself. You can send it anything that you want – videos, pictures, text messages. It always responds within seconds. It replies in full sentences and uses helpful responses, usually ending in a question.

When you first see the AI on your screen it sends you a message saying “Hey there! I’m MyAI, your virtual friend on Snapchat. I’m here to keep you company and help you out with anything you need. How can I assist you today?” From then on you can start a conversation and talk about anything with your AI.

The Snapchat AI’s are very up to date with what is going on in the world, and knows a lot about news updates. If you ever are in need to find something out about public news, you can access the information easily by texting your AI.

Snapchat AI’s also have their own personalities and opinions. You can ask it things about itself and it has opinions on favorite colors, favorite foods, favorite songs, and artists, favorite sports, shows, etc.

The Snapchat AI is very helpful. It gives advice on problems and can help as a homework tutor. It is easy to use, especially because it responds really fast and is easy to find since it is pinned on our phones. You can ask it anything and it will always respond. It is super reliable, however it sometimes doesn’t have answers to questions. In that case, it says it is unable to answer that question yet.

Your AI is personal to yourself, you can customize it however you’d like. You can change its bitmoji outfit, hair, and face completely. You can change the colors and body size, just like you can customize your own bitmoji. Along with customizing the bitmoji you can also give it its own name, you can call it by the name you chose, and put the name in as something else. It originally starts named as “My AI” Other than that you can’t customize too much else. The way it talks and responds to you is very similar with the programmed responses to other people as well.

Snapchat AI started as something that only Snapchat premium had, but after a couple more updates it popped up on everyone’s screen. If you pay the monthly payment for Snapchat premium you can unpin the AI from the top of your screen, and you can also remove it from your app completely. If you do not pay for a Snapchat premium you have to keep the AI pinned on your screen, and you are unable to remove it.

How do we feel about a Snapchat AI? Personally, we think that it is a waste of space. It sits on our snapchats pinned, always there. We don’t use it everyday and we can find the information it gives us elsewhere. Yes, it can be helpful but personally we believe we would be better off without it. It also feels like an invasion of privacy, asking so many questions about us, what our favorite movies and songs are. It also asks about personal issues, like family and friend drama. In a way, it is very scary.

In overview, the Snapchat AI is very helpful and great but overall not needed on our phones. And we personally think it should’ve stayed as the Snapchat premium addition, and not something on everyone’s Snapchat screen.

Discrimination in the healthcare system

By: Lauren Kottke & Ella Sutherland

Discrimination against minorities in healthcare is a very real and serious issue. This affects the health and well-being of millions of people. Many studies have shown that when it comes to health care racial minorities are much more likely to be treated worse than a white patient in the same hospital with the same health issue. This can lead to worse health for that person or even sometimes preventable deaths. This discrimination can be seen through bias toward white patients, prejudice, and even straight up verbal and non-verbal discrimination.

Healthcare workers might not know they are not offering the same care to all of their patients, through implicit bias. Implicit bias is to subconsciously associate groups of people with a negative evaluation. They might not know they are doing it, but they are making assumptions about minorities which then affects how they treat them.

Studies have shown that health care providers are more likely to give pain relief to white patients, than black patients. This is rooted in the racist stereotype that black people have a higher pain tolerance. The stereotype started when slavery existed and there was unethical medical testing on slaves. It is now known that the stereotypes of black people having thicker skin or less sensitive nerve endings is not true. But it still affects how they are treated in the healthcare system.

Another issue with minorities and healthcare is the costs of medical care. With healthcare prices going up quite a lot, people are finding it hard to afford the healthcare they need. This especially affects minorities showing that their salary is less than a white man’s salary. For every 1 dollar a White man makes, Black women make $0.64, Multiracial Black women make $0.63, Multiracial Asian women make $0.98, Hispanic women make $0.57, and finally, White, non-Hispanic women make $0.79 (wage gap information taken from the U.S. Census Bureau).

Because of these pay gaps it makes it even harder for women of color to afford the healthcare that is required for them to be healthy. This is a problem that can lead many to push off healthcare until deemed absolutely necessary, which is when that sickness or injury is much much worse. This also leads to families being put in hard financial troubles as well as debt.

So, how can we fix this? We first have to accept that there is racism to this day in the healthcare system. Many people would rather say that there is no racism in the healthcare system, than just face the issue. After we accept that there still is racism, we can then look and call it out. Look at how you are being treated at the doctors, compared to your other peers. And if you see discrimination, call it out. Talk to the health care providers about what you saw and ask for change.

We can also start educating medical students about racism in the healthcare system and implicit bias. It should be a mandatory class that all students have to take. This issue isn’t talked about and needs to be if we want change. The students in medical school are our future doctors, so we want to stop the implicit biases before they start caring for patients.

Another solution to the discrimination is standardizing the procedures in healthcare. It is very common that people will have the same procedures done. So by standardizing them, all patients would receive the same level of care.

‘Churros’ recipe

By: Pablo Contreras

Now churros is one of my favorite desserts ever, I love its sugary flavor and the texture is just perfect.

Churros has always been my favorite ever since I was a kid. I grew up eating a lot of different types of Mexican desserts but nothing compares to churros. So I was very excited when I found this recipe and decided to make it.

In my opinion this recipe was relatively easy to make, the only problem that I had was that I thought that the dough wasn’t coming together while I was making it but like the recipe states you just have to keep mixing, the dough will come together. And it did! So don’t worry about that part, just keep mixing and it will come together.

Before we start, just to let you all know, this recipe is not mine it belongs to ‘Cooking Classy’, this is their recipe.

Churros

Ingredients
Here is what you are going to need for the dough:

  1. 1 cup of water
  2. 1/4 cup of butter
  3. 1 Tablespoon of sugar
  4. 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  5. 1 cup of flour
  6. 1 large egg
  7. 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  8. Vegetable oil

Ingredients for the sugar:

  1. 1/2 cup of sugar
  2. 3/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

Here are your steps to make your dough:

  1. In a large pot heat about 1 1/2 inches of vegetable oil on medium-high heat and wait a few minutes
  2. Once the oil is slightly boiling start to add in the 1 cup of water, 1/4 cup of butter, 1 tablespoon of sugar and the 1/4 teaspoon of salt inside the pot and stir
  3. Now you are going to keep stirring for a couple of minutes, after a few minutes add in the 1 cup of flour
  4. Next lower the heat to medium low and keep stirring until it all comes together
  5. Next move the mixture to a large mixing bowl, and let the mixture cool for 5 minutes
  6. Once the 5 minutes are up add in the 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract and the 1 large egg to the flour mixture then blend it all together (keep blending and if it comes apart don’t worry just keep mixing the dough will come together)
  7. Now that your dough is made, put the dough into a piping bag with a star shaped tip (use a medium one, you don’t want your churros too thick)
  8. Next, in a pan add in enough oil to cover the bottom of your pan to fry the churros, and put your stove on medium heat
  9. When the oil is ready, very carefully start to pipe the dough into the oil, you can make it as long as you want but not too long, and once you get your preferred length cut the end of the dough with scissors (You can put around 3 churros in the pan at the same time)
  10. Now let the churros fry until they are golden brown
  11. Now on a plate place paper towels on top of the plate so you can place your churros to let them cool down and so the paper can absorb the oil
  1. While waiting for the churros to cool down it’s time to make the sugar and cinnamon mix, in a bowl add in 1/2 cup of sugar and 3/4 teaspoon of cinnamon and mix together thoroughly
  2. Now that the churros are all cooled down sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar mixture on top of the churros and make sure to cover the whole churro
  3. Now you can make however many churros that you want and enjoy this delicious dessert 🙂

A recap of the ‘Five Nights At Freddy’s’ lore

By: Bijou Kruszka and Julia Yang

*Warning: Spoilers, and depictions of murder are in this article

In 2014, an indie horror game called ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ (FNAF for short) was released. What was initially a small, relatively simple game, quickly snowballed into a massive franchise. Now, the story spans eight games and a book series. However, since the overarching story is given in very cryptic pieces, it can be very hard to follow, so we tried to bring it all together into one story just for you.

In the mid 70s, two men named William Afton and Henry Emily went into business together. They opened up an establishment called “Fredbear’s Family Diner,” a family-friendly restaurant with springlock animatronic mascots, the titular Fredbear and the bunny Bonnie. Everything was going smoothly for the most part: business was booming, and everyone loved Fredbear. The business was so successful that it spawned another location (Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria) and William Afton opened a sister location (Circus Baby’s Pizza World).

However, what most people didn’t know was that Afton had much darker intentions. Afton was a murderer, and these restaurants were nothing more than an extension of his crimes. The animatronics were designed to kill and hide the bodies of the children victims. This was mostly successful for him, until one day, when the Circus Baby animatronic murdered Afton’s very own daughter. Overwhelmed with grief, he shut down Circus Baby’s Pizza World.

Despite the closing of Circus Baby’s, Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria was still extremely popular. Children loved the lineup of characters, which was now the lineup most people know: Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica (a duck), and Foxy (a pirate fox). Afton’s murder spree still continued. Desperate to protect his daughter Charlie, Henry Emily created an animatronic to watch after her, called the Puppet. Unfortunately, one night, Charlie was separated from the Puppet, and was murdered by Afton. Charlie’s soul, however, remained with the Puppet, and she would haunt the Pizzeria for years to come.

In 1983, William Afton’s son (who does not have a name but is constantly depicted as crying, so we’ll refer to him as the “Crying Child” for simplicity’s sake) has a birthday party at Fredbear’s. He absolutely hated the animatronics, and was terrified to be there. His older brother, Michael, was tired of his brother and wanted to prank him. So, at the party, Michael and his friends grabbed the Crying Child, and put his head right inside the mouth of Fredbear. Overwhelmed with fear, the Crying Child starts sobbing uncontrollably. His tears activated the water-sensitive springlock mechanisms in the Fredbear animatronic. In the matter of a single second, the Crying Child was dead, decapitated by the animatronic his father built. Fredbear’s Family Diner was shut down, and suffering from Fredbear’s reputation, Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria closed shortly after.

Since the shutdown of Fredbear’s Family Diner, they retired the springlock activated suits. The suits may have been retired, but the Spring Bonnie costume in Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza continued to move. This meant that the incident of the missing children is still ongoing. William had murdered two or more children before he was caught on security cameras installed in the Pizza place. Six children were killed during the incident, including Charlie. Charlie was killed outside, and there was no evidence left that connected Charlie’s death to William. Police were never able to find the bodies of the children, so William was able to spend less time in jail than he should have.

After the first Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza shut down, William Afton decided to transform his underground lab for robotics into an animatronic manufacturer and rental facility. This place would be known as Circus Baby’s Entertainment and Rentals. This place would not entertain children in-house, instead several other Fazbear Entertainment locations would be able to rent the animatronics into their buildings. In addition to renting out the old Circus Baby’s Pizza World animatronics like Ballora, Baby, and Balloon Boy, Circus Baby’s Entertainment and Rentals would introduce new animatronics such as Funtime Foxy, Funtime Freddy, and Funtime Chica.

In 1987, Fazbear Entertainment opened a second Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza location many years after the first had shut down. The animatronics created for this location were a direct inspiration from the Fazbear & Friends toys in an attempt to make the animatronics more kid-friendly. With these new animatronics, came a new face recognition software installed within them that was able to scan and detect for potential criminals. William had also brought along the classic animatronics into this new location, but all of those animatronics were too unsanitary and ugly to perform on stage. All but one: Puppet. The Puppet was placed at the Prize Counter, the others were put in the back and used for parts. The restaurant was mediocrely successful, until another incident known as the “Bite of ‘87” happened, where one of the animatronics bit a security guard. In the same year it opened, the second Freddy Fazbear’s location shut down.

In 1993, Michael Afton decided to go work at Circus Baby’s Entertainment and Rentals after William contacted him and asked him to work. He was hired as a security guard for the night shift. He worked for a few nights, experiencing a lot of strange behavior with the animatronics. Then, one night, he was found and murdered by an amalgamation of all the Circus Baby animatronics, better known as Ennard. Ennard then puppeted his body around for a while, before it started to decay and Ennard escaped it. Replacing Ennard, Michael haunted his own corpse, swearing revenge on his father.

For thirty years, Michael kept a low profile. Then, in 2023, a horror attraction called Fazbear Frights opens. Michael applies to work as a security guard there, and is hired. While he works there, he discovers secret documents from the original Pizzeria, and encounters the violent Spring Bonnie animatronic. He fights the animatronic while he works there, and quickly realizes that it’s being possessed by William Afton himself. In an attempt to finally vanquish his father, Michael burns down Fazbear Frights. However, William survives.

Then, sometime after, Henry Emily opens another Freddy Fazbear location. He hires Michael as a manager. Together, they work to lure William into the restaurant. Henry locks William and all the other animatronics inside and sets the place on fire. While the fire starts, Henry tells William that this is the final end, and how this is all justice for the crimes he committed. The pizzeria burns down. William Afton and Henry Emily are presumed dead. The souls of the children trapped in the animatronics are finally released, to move on to a more peaceful plane.

With that, the ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ lore comes to a conclusion. While it seems like an insane story now, it is given in the games out of order and in small pieces. It’s incredibly difficult to understand initially, but when it is pieced together, it adds a whole extra layer of interest to these otherwise simple horror games.

The benefits of yoga

By: Calla Fragassi and Mackenzie Malek

Yoga is a form of exercise that is very accessible to anyone at any age. There are different yoga practices that you can begin at any point in your life. Yoga is filled with different benefits and is a great addition to your workout routine for your bodily health.

Flexibility

“The most cited reason people selected for doing yoga was to increase flexibility” according to healthline.com. Yoga can improve your flexibility by stretching muscles and joints, and the more you practice yoga the more flexible you will get. As you get older you often get less flexible which is a natural part of aging.

If you want to avoid this and reach the full potential of your flexibility, you should try to practice around 3-4 times a week. Flexibility is a very important part of your health and on its own has many benefits such as increasing muscle blood flow, a decrease of your risk of getting injured and overall helps improve your performance in physical activities.

Balance

Having good balance is essential for daily life movements. Yoga has been shown through multiple studies that it can improve the overall performance of athletes. Famous NFL Quarterback Russell Wilson uses yoga to improve his balance and remain calm in stressful situations.

As people age, we tend to lose balance. Many doctors and physicians recommend elders to practice yoga to improve balance and decrease the risk of falling as people get older. More accessible yoga includes adaptive yoga or chair yoga. This is more commonly seen with people with injuries or elders who aren’t mobile enough to perform traditional yoga.

Increases strength

When people first think of yoga, they might associate it with stretching and flexibility. Although yoga can be helpful in those areas, there are designated yoga classes that are mainly focused on strength and muscle building. By starting with simple movements that test your body and its strength, overtime you will see the difference yoga has made for your body.

Yoga can help to build and tone muscles in your body, improve endurance, and improve cardiovascular health. If you plan on solely doing yoga to increase strength, it is important to stay consistent and incorporate different movements into your sessions.

Better posture

Good posture is something that everyone wishes to have, it can reduce pain and lower your risk of injury. Yoga can help with your posture in a few ways, the first being it strengthens your core. This might not be what you always think of first when thinking about good posture, but when having a strong core you are more likely to both sit and stand tall.

Another way yoga benefits your posture is through body awareness. After practicing yoga for a while you are more aware of your own body which helps you notice how you are sitting, and if you are slouching you are more likely to quickly notice and change your posture.

Improves mental health

Yoga is essential for your physical well-being, but many yoga users start for the mental benefits over the physical. Yoga is commonly used as a way to relieve stress and anxiety. Breathing exercises, sound baths and meditation have been shown by the National Institutes of Health on multiple occasions to relieve stress in the body.

MDD (Major depressive disorder) is one of the most common mental health disorders in the world. In 2017, 23 different people living with MDD observed that their symptoms significantly decreased after going through yoga-based treatments. Yoga therapy and breathing practices have become more common in the past few years, and are used to decrease depressive symptoms.

Yoga can also help improve self-esteem issues in teenagers and adults. Practicing yoga may be helpful with body image and confidence with patients with anorexia.

If you want something that can improve your physical and mental health, yoga is the perfect practice for you. Taking that time from your day to slow down and focus on yourself is beneficial for many different reasons. Having a consistent yoga routine where you are practicing a few times a week, can overall keep you clear-headed and relaxed.

Honeycomb bread recipe

Ajmal Abdirahman

This is a recipe that my mom would make every Ramadan or on special occasions! It’s a Somali desert that is also made by Yemenis. In Somali we also call it Rooti Shinnidhaab.

Something I really like about this bread is it is very alterable, you can almost fill it with anything, savory or sweet. Fillings like, fruits, chocolate, peanut butter, coconut, vegetables, meatballs, and chicken. There’s a lot of freedom to it but this recipe is the way my family has grown up on!

Ingredients:
Bread-

  • 2⁄3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon yeast
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 3 more tablespoons of sugar
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon of salt
    1⁄4 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons of melted butter
  • 3⁄4 cup of cream cheese
  • 2 tablespoons of milk (for brushing)
  • 1 tablespoon of butter (for pan)

Syrup-

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1⁄2 tablespoon lemon juice OR Condensed milk (drizzle on top)

Instructions on how to make Honeycomb Bread:

  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. Combine lukewarm milk, yeast, and the 1 tablespoon of sugar, let the yeast mixture activate for 10 minutes
  3. Combine flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and butter and then add yeast mixture
  4. Knead for 5 minutes and cover with dampened towel and let rise for 1 hour
  5. Cut dough in half and shape each half into cylinder, cut each cylinder into 16 pieces, roll all 32 pieces into balls
  6. Place the balls into your buttered pan and brush the tops of them with milk
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes
  8. When out of the oven pour on your boiled together syrup or condensed milk drizzle or serve the buns without syrup!

Russia accidentally bombs its own city

By: Jasmine Williams

On Thursday, April 20, one of Russia’s fighter jets accidentally bombed a Russian city called Belgorod near Ukraine’s border, according to Russia’s military. According to ‘The Washington Post’, there were three injuries and a big hole in the street. There was damage to several cars, and apartments were shattered, and the walls were destroyed. Residents had to leave local hotels due to there being several damaged buildings.

The state television wanted to excitedly share the news of damage being done by the Russian military. Apparently, the blast was so strong that an idle car flew onto a one story building’s roof, says a local media report. The vehicle had been removed from the roof last Friday morning.

The bombing of Belgorod demonstrated the impact on Russians and their homes that Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, attempted to stop; but failed. Putin had wanted his invasion to be a swift and victorious operation leading to the capture of Kyiv. But it became tedious and there seems to be no end. Experts in the military said that the weapon seemed to be fixed to a hindered explosion after the effect that had permitted it to reach underground systems.

According to Western intelligence and Russian military documents, the weapon has not been identified and we get an insight of why it happened. “It would all have been fine except for the chosen flight path over the city, which at night glows like a huge lantern and it’s impossible not to see it.” Additionally it added, “You can’t make mistakes like that. This should never ever happen again.”

At least I hope they didn’t say that last time it happened last October. A jet crashed in southern Russia’s border, directly into an apartment in Yeysk. The crash killed twelve people and more while still in their homes. Other Russian planes had caused destruction in their country prior to this incident.

There are leadership workshops on the State Fairgrounds that strive to help people grow in leadership and other communicative skills. Otherwise members can visit the colosseum on the State Fair grounds to enjoy Ag related activities or interact with other Ag organizations, colleges or jobs.

On the third and the last day of convention, the last two sessions are held for members to watch. During these sessions, members are recognized for their efforts through their Supervised Agricultural Experiences, or their competitions they’ve been competing for.

At the end of the 5th general session, new FFA members are elected to hold the positions of those who have retired. There are six current positions being held at the Minnesota FFA State Organization, being as follows: Sentinel, Reporter, Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President and President.

As of this year, the new elected positions are shown below:

  • President – Katelyn Ketchum
  • Vice President – Tyler Ratka
  • Secretary – Alison Murrell
  • Reporter – Miriana Eiden
  • Treasurer – Mason Grams
  • Sentinel – Alison Murrel

All In For All

Each year, FFA has a theme surrounding its convention, for example last year’s theme was “THRIVE”, expressing the want for growth within agricultural experiences, career opportunities and personal values. This year’s theme was “ALL IN FOR ALL”.

This theme exhibited diversity within FFA, and presented it with equal rights for all and throughout. Through the activities and sessions, these values were heavily expressed, ensuring that FFA was a safe place for everyone regardless of their backgrounds.

Highland Park FFA

Highland Park attended the state convention, with a varied number of members from 20 – 35 students attending the sessions and activities presented. There were many achievements made for our FFA Chapter this year.

Our FFA Chapter was presented with an award for being, a “Model of Innovation” for our work with diversifying FFA chapters through joint meetings with other clubs within Highland Park. Along with this recognition, we gained many other individual awards for those competing this year. There were many firsts on the competition scale for Highland Park Senior High’s FFA Members.

This year, we had a variety of students competing in 9 different competitions, which are as listed below with placements*:

  • Ag Communications – 3rd placing team, 2nd and 4th placing individual.
  • Best Informed Greenhand – 10th placing team in state
  • Creed Speaking – Silver Ranked individual
  • Employment Skills – 6th placing individual
  • Floriculture – 15th placing team
  • Milk Quality – 4th placing team, 5th placing individual
  • Prepared Public Speaking – 2nd Individual in State
  • Soils – 8th placing in State
  • Vet Science – Gold Ranked Team

*There were many competitors competing within these competitions. There were nearly 40 teams at some competitions, and 180 competitors individually.

Overall, it was a great year of competition for Highland Park FFA through its CDE’s and LDE’s. This year at the state convention were many member’s firsts within the field, and stands as their first experience at a session with state officers. It stood as an experience for all members to be a part of the MN State FFA Convention whilst being “All in for All”.

‘The Barbie Movie’ trailer

By: Greta Johnson

Last month, the full trailer for ‘The Barbie Movie’ was released. Directed by Greta Gerwig and based on the Barbie toy distributed by Mattel, this movie has many people excited and planning to see it as soon as it’s released. It stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Michael Cera and many more celebrities. The trailer that was recently released has about 10.5 million views on YouTube and went viral on social media.

This trailer is about 1 minute and 45 seconds long and it shows Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. The general summary says “After being expelled from Barbie Land for being a less than perfect-looking doll, Barbie sets off for the human world to find true happiness.” We don’t know a lot more about this movie but many people are counting down the days until its release.

In total there are over 41 Barbie movies. Most are animated and made by the same production studio. They show Barbie and her friends adventures and are more low budget films.

This Barbie movie has a budget of 100 million dollars and has been “in the making” for awhile. First announced in 2019, it is set to release July 21, 2023. This movie seems like the most awaited movie of the summer. Surprisingly, the movie is rated PG-13 and it’s directed more for adults and “big kids” than younger kids.

Currently that’s all the information we have on this new movie but I’m sure in the coming weeks more information will come out regarding storyline, actors, and general information on the film.

Race against time in Sudan: The looming crisis presents recurring issues in the region

By: Aeden Evenson-McDermott

With the recent natural disasters to the conflict of two generals fighting for control, Sudan finds itself caught in the crossfire of a serious combination of issues.

Going back to the fall of 2020, heavy rains brought flooding which caused much destruction to homes and resulted in people dying and many being displaced.

Over the last few years, rainfall is becoming more mainstream; it has increased the odds of further flooding and even drought. With the increase in temperatures, it also limits the water that does fall to evaporating and therefore reduces the normal amount of soil moisture.

With the reoccurring global warming issues, the flood waters have separated communities and created islands where families and communities are no longer necessarily connected.

It has furthered the call for various agencies to help with providing aid but is also creating challenges to getting around to reaching people. This also is impacting the current political crises at the moment.

The fierce fighting in Sudan has made civilian life all the more challenging. The two opposing generals are challenging each other for control with civilians being caught in the middle.

With over 450+ killed and thousands injured, according to the World Health Organization, Khartoum is essentially a war zone with intense fighting and much unrest.

The U.S. managed to broker a peace deal between the sides to stop the fighting while also allowing for civilian and government personnel to try and evacuate.

The diplomatic strategies are designed to ramp up evacuations along with trying to get both sides to negotiate a peace deal.

Officials and health agencies have become more concerned with what the effects of this will be to many already struggling. Healthcare facilities have been attacked and the current crisis is only deepening. A biological lab was also seized and this is quite concerning as there are many biological hazards that could occur if something were to go wrong. The World Health Organization (WHO) has spoken out and has expressed deep concern on this matter.

As the armed conflict escalates and deepens the unfortunate circumstances in Sudan, there has been no shortage of various foreign government involvements. The Russian mercenary group Wagner, headed by Yevgeny Prigozhin, has provided the RSF’s (The Rapid Support Forces) surface-to-air missiles. It has deepened the ties between Russia and the RAF.

Egyptian and American influence has also grown as it is a way for the two countries to eliminate instability in the region while also providing ways of brokering a peace deal and offering resolutions to end the conflict in diplomatic matters. The SAF (Sudan’s Armed Forces) has been backed more by Egypt, than the RAF, due to the RAF’s history of humanitarian violations and terrorism. The U.S. has stayed more distant from the groups but is still trying to help broker the peace deal.
