You think your best friends know you? -Here’s what the data says

By: Josephine Feliciano and Collette Uran

You and your friends might be as tight as can be but how well do you guys really know each other? We decide to interview three teen boys who have all been best friends for years and see how well they really know each other. We asked one of them 26 questions, and then asked the other two how they thought the first person would answer. Let’s see how their answers compare to each other!

Based on these answers it seems like they know each other well, but maybe not as much as they thought! Some of his answers his friends guessed wrong are answers for questions that you might think are easy to know. They still did pretty good, getting over half right, and even got some pretty hard answers that even the bestest of friends might have never talked about! Who knows how much it was guess work and how much they were 100% sure about, but we think that this shows that they are really good friends, after all no one’s perfect!

It is scientifically proven that having close friends as a teen, improves your mental health and your social independence. Having close friends that know you well is key to getting through high school. It’s actually important to test your closeness with your friends every so often with tests like this because it helps you figure out the point you are at in your friendship and can also help identify hidden challenges. Studies show that parents naturally talk to their daughters more about friendships than they do with their sons. This then leads to girls having deeper and longer lasting friendships because they have tools to help them. Most girls also have deeper and more emotional talks which leads to them knowing more about each other than boys who don’t have close conversations. Studies also show that most teen boys aren’t even that close, friendship wise, due to them not being comfortable to talk about their deeper emotions with each other.

Studies show that even having one short chat with your friends a day can majorly improve your mental health and happiness. Talking and sharing with your friends helps you have a deeper relationship. They are closer and feel safer and more connected with each other, and it helps their relationship hold more value. Also. becoming closer with your friends through conversations helps with your stress levels because you have someone to talk to that’s not in your family.

All in all it is very clear that talking and sharing with your friends has huge benefits and improves your life a lot. Even if you guys don’t know all the answers to the questions on the test we did, that doesn’t mean you aren’t close. Maybe you guys just have other things to talk about! Remember to stay connected with those you love!
