Review for ‘Ginny and Georgia’

By: Kendra Shanklin

*Warning this review contains spoilers

‘Ginny and Georgia’ is a show about a mom named Georgia who wanted her 2 children Ginny and Austin to have a fresh start so she moved them to Massachusetts. It was released on February 24th, 2021 and this show is rated TV-14 containing intense language, sexual situations and violence.

*Recap

In the first season Austin and Georgia are at his first day in school and he’s nervous but his mom reassures him that everything will be okay and that he’s strong. She then gives him a hug and sends him off to school. Later on, Ginny starts her first day at school and she’s in class and her teacher sees her and says that students in his class take AP English very seriously and she should move down to regular English. She takes that as a racial comment because she’s the only colored person in the classroom. She then throws a comment about how they’re reading 14 books but there’s not 1 black author that wrote a book amongst them.

She then starts talking back to the teacher saying how she thinks he’s a racist because he doesn’t talk about any black book writers. Her classmate Max then jumps in and starts siding with her and having her back.

Ginny’s class then ends and she’s in her locker when she closes it and a boy named Marcus is standing there looking at her. He then asks if she’s new and moved across the street from him and she says “It’s Monday,” because he’s wearing a shirt that says Wednesday.

They then have a tiny conversation and he mentions how he met her mom the night before. Ginny says, “She can be friendly,” and Marcus says how her mom asked for drugs so she can’t be that friendly.

Ginny’s classmate Max then tells Marcus to leave and Max starts talking to Ginny and they ditch lunch to get tacos off campus, but from afar Ginny sees her mom having lunch with the mayor.

‘My review’

I love this show every time a new season comes out I’m always so excited to see what’s next. Although this show can give you a few second hand embarrassments and get boring at times because of how much they talk, other than that, it’s a pretty good show to binge watch on your free time.

If you like drama movies or anything that has to do with a lot of controversy I recommend you check this out. I give this series an 8.5/10.

Thank you for reading me review I hope your willing to watch the show after reading this🤍. You can watch ‘Ginny and Georgia’ on Netflix.

The Empyrean series review

By: Teagan Mack

The Empyrean book series, written by Rebecca Yarros, is one of the most popular, and spoken of, fantasy book series since 2023. This series is a blend of fantasy, romance, and military adventures, capturing the attention of millions of readers worldwide. This story follows a young woman named Violet Sorrengail, who was forced to join an elite dragon-riding military war college, even though she was never trained for it.

This article may contain spoilers so read at your own risk.

The first book, ‘Fourth Wing’, was released in May 2023 and made its way up the charts quickly. It follows Violet’s journey into Basgiath War College, where she has to train hard to become a dragon rider, or die trying. Violet made friends and found old ones, found love, and with that came secrets and enemies. Her friends are amazing and really loyal, and she also became friends with the marked ones (they are basically the children of the enemies from a previous war, it’s kind of hard to explain) who are feared throughout Basgiath.

From the words of Ms. Pischke “It sucks you in the first 2 pages, then it sends you on this wild journey of heartbreak and there’s tears and a lot of emotion. I’m impatiently waiting for the 4th book.” The book has a mix of high end battles, magical dragons, and forbidden romance, going viral and selling over 2.7 million copies in its first week.

The second book, ‘Iron Flame’, came out just a few months later in November of 2023, continuing Violet’s story at the war college. In this book, Violet faces new enemies, more secrets, and amazing character development. Every rider is bonded to one dragon and earns powers from their dragons called signets. Violet has a different story though, she bonded with not one but two dragons, and has one of the most powerful signets that hasn’t been seen in centuries.

Throughout ‘Iron Flame’ Violet finds out more about her dragons, bonds, signets, and about how special the marked ones are. Evie Beetle says “I really like how the author writes the plot and action and the characters. The bonds. The writing makes the readers seem engaged. I feel connected to the characters which are different for me. I never read a fantasy book before this and it changed my perspective. There’s a good balance of action and emotion and character development.”

The third book, ‘Onyx Storm’, is the most recent book, coming out January 21, 2025. Even though this book series focuses on Violet and her journey, it also shows more about side characters like Violet’s friends, Xaden Riorson (her boyfriend) and their dragons. This book follows more of her second bonded dragon Andarna, and the history of the dragons. In the first book it is known that everyone gains one signet, and there are 6 breeds/colors of dragons, black being the rarest. Not only did Violet bond with the second biggest black dragon on the continent, but she also bonded with a mysterious little black dragon, who we later find out is a 7th breed of dragon who can basically camouflage and select their scale colors.

Readers are shaken by every plot twist and surprise these books bring, and after Rebecca Yarros announced that it was made to be a 5 book series. There are many theories about what the 4th book brings.

Rebecca Yarros, the author, is an amazing writer, getting readers hooked on the plot and each and every character, whether we like them or not. Yarros has a plan for every character and isn’t afraid to get rid of them, like we experience in the first book. Yarros has experience as a military spouse and lives with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a chronic illness that inspired parts of Violet’s character. In the acknowledgments at the back of ‘Onyx Storm’ she thanks her husband, because while writing this book she was struggling a lot, and he helped her through everything.

During her ‘Onyx Storm’ book tour she stated: “Someone you love won’t make it in book 4.” Every reader is speculating who it could be and we’re all scared. In the first book she got us hooked into a side character (one of Violet’s friends) who played a great role in her life. At the end of the book she killed him off saying it was because he was perfect and there was nothing to change about him or add to him. Readers are convinced the next victim is one of her best friends, because he is a big piece in Violet’s life and is perfect in every way.

In 2023 the Empyrean series was selected by Amazon MGM Studios to be turned into a TV show. With help from Michael B. Jordan’s production company, and Outlier Society with the adaptation, Emmy-winning writer Moira Walley-Beckett will be the showrunner. There have been many fan cast picks but nothing is official. To play the main male role fans want Josh Heuston, and for the main female role fans want Mackenzie Foy (from Twilight). I personally agree with these fancast options.

‘Frozen’ (2010) movie review

By: Sophia Elmstrom & Lily Sheldon

*Warning: this review contains spoilers

This title may sound misleading, but this is not what you think this is. The movie ‘Frozen’ is a psychological horror made in 2010. It was directed by Adam Green, and stars Shawn Ashmore, Kevin Zegers, and Emma Bell. ‘Frozen’ is rated R and is very violent. This movie would not be suitable for young people or if you get grossed out easily.

Here’s a rundown of the plot. ‘Frozen’ features two young men, Dan and Joe, and a young woman, Parker. Parker and Dan are dating and Joe and Dan are best friends. The three decide to go to a ski resort to enjoy a day on the slopes. On the night of their last day, the friends convince the ski lift operator to let them on the lift for one last run down the mountain. The operator went on break and a new guy came to take his place. The operator told the new guy that there were still 3 skiers who needed to come down. The second operator mistakes 3 mingling skiers for Dan, Parker, and Joe and he shuts down the chairlift, leaving the 3 friends trapped. To make matters worse, the ski resort was closed for the whole weekend.

The friends start to get worried and realize they will be there for the whole night if not the whole weekend. The 3 call out for help, and they see a snow plow arrive under them, but it fails to notice the stranded group on the lift. The group realizes they are going to have to find a way down the mountain.

Dan jumps off the lift in an attempt to get help, and breaks his legs once he realizes how far down it really was. With Dan now unable to move, Parker and Joe try to find a way down to help him. A pack of wolves soon arrive and Joe and Parker are unable to help him, so they have to listen helplessly as their friend gets torn apart by the wolves.

The next morning, Joe tries climbing on the chairlift cable to find a way down. He makes it to the support pole and climbs down. The wolves come back but he fights them off with a ski pole. Joe slides down the mountain on Dan’s snowboard, but the wolves follow.

Now Parker is alone on the ski lift, and she tries to escape by getting to the support pole. As she stands up on the chair, the bolts disconnect and the lift falls a little, and now is hanging on by a single wire. Parker jumps off and is able to take the fall, but the lift then falls on her ankle. Parker pries the chair off her foot, and crawls down the mountain to find help. She gets to the street and flags down a car to take her to the hospital. Parker is relieved to finally be rescued and to get home safely.

This movie received a 63% from Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.5/10 from IMDB. We believe this is way too high of a rating and think that this movie was truly very bad. Many people say it reminds them of a movie they have seen before, ‘Fall’. We have seen this movie and agree that it is very similar, almost like they copied the plot of ‘Fall’ which follows two girls who get stuck on a telephone pole. Many other reviewers rate this movie 5 stars out of 5 and say they loved the movie. This movie was too gory for our liking and was just a bad plot line. Although it was very psychological and kept us wondering the entire movie we just do not get why people gave it such high ratings.

Overall, we rate this movie a 2/10 because the plot was boring and way too violent with many scenes involving very descriptive noises and images. We disagree with all of these ratings and we do not understand why people liked this movie so much. You can watch ‘Frozen’ on Prime Video.
