Everything we know about the upcoming Little Nightmares Game: ‘Little Nightmares III’

By: Julia Yang

Official image of game from Bandai

Are you a fan of ‘Little Nightmares’, or just interested? Well, you’re in luck, today I’ve decided to explain the situation to you in full form! Shall we?

As of last year, ‘Little Nightmares III’ was revealed with a new trailer as part of Gamescom Opening Night Live 2023.

Unlike ‘Little Nightmares I’ and II, ‘Little Nightmares III’ seems to take away our beloved girl in a yellow raincoat: Six. Fans are mildly upset about this news as they’ve grown so attached to Six, but are ecstatic nonetheless and can’t wait for this game to come out.

Instead of Six and Mono, this third game stars two completely new characters: Low and Alone. Low seems to be a dark skinned boy with a white plague mask, beige shirt, grayish brown shorts, a blue cape, a bow and arrow, and a colorful bracelet around his ankle. Alone has paler skin with ginger hair and wears a green jumpsuit, a brown helmet, goggles, and a belt around her torso to hold a wrench. Low and Alone are two children exploring the place called ‘Nowhere’.

Here’s the official description for ‘Little Nightmares III’:
“Embark on a new adventure in the unique world of Little Nightmares.

In Little Nightmares III, you follow the journey of Low & Alone, as they search for a path that could lead them out of the Nowhere.

Trapped within the Spiral, a cluster of disturbing places, the two friends will have to work together to survive in a dangerous world full of delusions and escape the grasp of an even greater threat lurking in the shadows.

For the first time in the franchise, face your childhood fears together with a friend using online co-op, or solo with an AI companion.”

Yes, you read that right. For the first time ever in the ‘Little Nightmares’ games, you’re able to play with a friend in co-op! Fans are extremely happy about this news, as they expected ‘Little Nightmares II’ to be co-op with Mono and Six but were let down when they announced it was still a single-player, and Six would be controlled by AI.

I will link all trailers, the quick sneak peek gameplay, and the Bandai Namco website for ‘Little Nightmares III’ below.

‘Little Nightmares’ doesn’t have a release date, but is expected to be released this year in 2024. So, be ready, and be excited, for the brand new game!

Breaking down the cost of each part of a McDonald’s burger will surprise you

By: Oak Berg

Breaking down the cost of each part of a McDonald’s burger will surprise you.

The main ingredient, the beef patty, is the main reason of the cost. the meat might taste good to some people and might taste bad to others, which changes the overall taste of the burger. the patty is around 15-20 cents adding up to the total price

Fresh lettuce and tomatoes also add to both the flavor and price of the burger. Some people prefer to take lettuce and tomatoes off their burgers (price doesn’t change), lettuce and tomatoes at McDonald’s averagely cost 5-10 cents.

Cheese adds to the flavor and price of the burger, some people may like hamburgers more than cheeseburgers, this doesn’t effect the price for the buyer but the average slice of cheese costs 6 cents.

The labor price is high with the workers for preparing and making the burger needing a lot of pay. With employee wages, training programs, etc, the average McDonald’s hourly wage is $15 for a new worker.

Facility price includes paying for the building, land, and food stock. All of these things add to the overall cost of making a burger.

Marketing and advertising prices also contribute to the burger’s cost. They need to make the brand big and grow their customer base. This also adds to the price of the McDonald’s burger.

Even though the cost breakdown and the components may change, the normal price of a McDonald’s burger to be manufactured is around 40 cents and to buy one it costs around $3-4 for the buyer depending on where you live in the US. McDonald’s needs to make a profit or they would go out of business, so they raise the price on their burger by many times the original price.

‘Good Burger 2’

By: Samson Belihu

*Warning: This article contains spoilers

This movie picks up over two decades after the first one. We start with one of the main characters, Dexter who is an entrepreneur with many ideas, and hopes of being rich in the future.

This movie shows us this dream become a failure due to him burning his home with a spray that can make any material flame-retardant. Turns out instead of a fire repellent, he made a fire spray. He tries to go to his sister, but his sister tells him he can’t live with her. That’s when Dexter is walking and he stumbles upon Ed, now a father and owner of Good Burger.

When Dexter asks if he could stay at Ed’s house Ed agrees due to their old friendship. Dexter then becomes an employee at Good Burger, and he starts getting his life back together.

Just when we start thinking it’s going great for Dexter, and Ed, a corporation called MegaCorps interrupts them by giving them a contract to sign. At first, Ed wants to decline, but she tells him that if he signs the contract his employees would get a huge raise. The once distrusting guy trusted the corporation when she told him her intentions. So, Ed signs the contract thinking it is a good idea.

But later on, they find out the true intentions of MegaCorps. In reality all MegaCorp wanted was to replicate the Good Burger’s secret sauce. If they managed to replicate the sauce they could eliminate any threats such as the Good Burger.

Once Ed signs the contract that’s when MegaCorps decides to leave thinking they have dealt with the threat, and would be back soon for the sauce. When they find out MegaCorps real intention, Dexter, Ed, and all the workers decide to create a plan to reclaim ownership back from MegaCorp, because they’ve beat them once and they’ll do it again.

Will they ever claim back GoodBurger?

The only way to know is by watching the movie on Paramount+.

In my opinion, the movie was good. I would give it a 4.2 out of 5.

I recommend watching the first one before the second movie though, so it makes more sense.

Seasonal recipes: Edible cookie dough

By: Austin Bailey-Zimmerman

This is by far the best edible cookie dough recipe I have ever tried. It isn’t grainy at all, it’s smooth and there is just the right amount of chocolate.

I got this recipe off of Pinterest from the Corrigan Sisters. Their page is all delicious desserts you can also try. You can use this dough for anything really. You can freeze it into balls and eat that as a dessert, you can put little chunks of it into your ice cream, or you could just eat it by the spoonful!

I made this recipe with my friends because we wanted a sweet dessert, but we didn’t have any, so we took the simple ingredients it takes to make this and we made it in 10 minutes! It’s very quick and easy. We were very satisfied with our results, so we ate all of it while watching a movie. This recipe isn’t very specific to a season, you can eat it whenever, and wherever you want! Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 2 sticks of softened butter
  • 1⁄2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1⁄4 cup milk
  • 1⁄2 cup of chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Gather ingredients
  2. Microwave butter for 30 seconds to soften
  3. Combine sugar, butter, salt, flour, vanilla extract, and milk in a medium sized bowl
  4. When all mixed together, add chocolate chips
  5. Optional: roll into balls and freeze for later!
  6. Enjoy!!

‘We Were Here’

By: Stephanie Caballero Benitez

*Warning: Contains game spoilers

‘We Were Here’ is a free, two player, puzzle game. ‘We Were Here’ is available on Steam and on the Epic Games Store with versions for PC and console. In this game, you and your partner begin in separate rooms both with clues to help one another get out of that room. To communicate with your partner, a radio is provided by the game, however the quality isn’t very good and I would recommend just entering a call with your partner through a different platform.

Both you and your partner get to decide which role you’d like to play; the two different roles are the explorer and the librarian. The librarian stays put in 1-3 rooms throughout the game and helps their partner by communicating all the clues to be able to do the puzzles that are given to the explorer. The explorer role goes through a variety of rooms and is more hands on compared to the librarian. Every time a puzzle is completed a door is opened and they get to move forward to the next puzzle.

One of my personal favorite rooms is the haunted theater. In the theater you are given a play to play out. The explorer’s responsibility is to communicate with the librarian as to what the play wants. In this play we are given 5 pieces, the king, the queen, the crowd, the killer, and the arch. Once the librarian knows what the play wants they crank the levers to pull out the correct pieces, and once the explorer verifies that all objects have been placed on stage the librarian may pull the scene lever.

After finishing all the puzzles, both the explorer and librarian get to leave the puzzle room and library. They meet up at the exit, but at the exit there is a lever. The lever requires for someone to keep it down for the door to stay open. You are given one last puzzle which is who will be left behind. No matter the role that you or your partner have, to be able to finish the game one has to be left behind while the other gets to walk out.

5 places to visit in Chicago

By: Cleo Newton

Image created with Wonder

1. The Art Institute of Chicago
This art museum is a great place to view many different artworks, writings, and is also a great place for research. The Art Institute of Chicago has artworks such as, “The Bedroom” made by Vincent Van Gogh in 1889, “Water Lilies” made by Claude Monet in 1906, and “The Old Guitarist” which was made in late 1903 and early 1903.

Tickets here are around $19 to $25. Last time I visited Chicago, my mom and I had planned on going here but we didn’t find time to do it.

2. Willis Tower
The Skydeck Experience is a fun activity to do here. It includes an interactive museum, and it’s both fun and educational. After that, you ride a huge elevator up to the 103rd floor. There you can take pictures in a glass ledge that overlooks the city and take pictures.

As fun as that last part sounds, I don’t recommend doing this on a rainy or cloudy day because the 103rd floor is pretty much in the sky and you won’t be able to see anything through clouds. Also, lots of people like getting their pictures taken here, so be prepared to wait in line for a while.

3. Buckingham Fountain
If you don’t want to spend money on anything, you should go see the Buckingham Fountain. It’s totally free and it’s very beautiful. This fountain is very large, and is located in Grant Park. I recommend visiting it at night because that’s when they turn on the lights to the fountain.

Last time I went, I didn’t have enough time to stay around until night time to see the lights, but next time I go, I’ll make sure to set aside time to do this.

4. Millennium Park
Millennium Park is near the Buckingham Fountain. It’s a great park for both kids and adults. According to Choosechicago.com, It has lots of green space and many activities such as ice skating, rock climbing, and it also has the Cloud Gate statue (a giant silver bean).

Although, last time I was there, that giant bean statue was closed, and I don’t know when it’s going to open or if it’s already opened again.

5. Chicago Children’s Museum
If you’re traveling to Chicago with a kid, Chicago Children’s Museum is a good place to visit. This museum has an art studio where you can make clay sculptures, a place called the Pritzker Playspace, and a tinkering lab where you can build buildings made of cardboard.

They are open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 10am-2pm and Friday through Sunday, 10am-5pm. I’ve never been there before but I think it would be fun, even if I’m not a little kid anymore.

Canes review

By Addie Strack and Sophie Johnson

Here’s a picture of our friend enjoying the three finger combo

When we are looking for good food in St. Paul, one of our favorite places to go to is Raising Canes. They have arguably the best fast food chicken, and an amazing lemonade as well. If we can’t agree on a restaurant to go to, we always know that Canes will end up being our destination.

Our favorite thing to get from Canes is the three chicken finger meal which includes three chicken fingers, one piece of perfectly toasted Texas toast, crinkle cut fries and their signature sauce called Canes Sauce. This meal is a 10/10 because the sauce adds so much delicious flavor to both the fries and the chicken and even the toast. The only thing that is bad about this meal is that it doesn’t come with enough sauce. If it came with two sauce cups, that would be the perfect amount. This meal is affordable with a price of $9.23 and will keep you full throughout the day.

The box combo is another menu item at Raising Canes that we really enjoy. This one is slightly more expensive at a price of $10.99 and includes all the items in the three finger combo and more. It includes four chicken fingers, crinkle cut fries, one piece of Texas toast, a container of coleslaw, as well as a fountain drink. This meal is still pretty affordable and has a good price for the amount of food you are getting. This meal is our second favorite out of all the meal combos at Raising Canes but we would still rate this meal a 10/10.

When deciding which Canes to go to in our area, we agree that our favorite location is the one in Rosedale. This Canes has some of the best service, and their food is always served fresh and hot. We have been there countless times, and never get tired of it. We usually both order the three finger chicken meal, because you can never go wrong with it. Neither of us have ever had a bad experience at this Canes, and agree that it is very convenient, because it has not only a sit down space, but a drive through as well. If you are in a rush, it’s the perfect place to stop to grab a quick substantial meal.

Another great Canes location in the area is the one on Lake Street, in Minneapolis. This location has a drive through like the one in Rosedale, making it another great place to go if you don’t want to get out of your car in this cold weather. This location also has great service, and their employees make your experience very fun. Last time we stopped at this Canes, the employee in the drive through had made his own jingle for the restaurant and sang it to us. He said “Yo yo yo can I get you some chicken to go?” This made us laugh, and enjoy our food even more, because we were having a great time. Either of these locations are great, and we would definitely recommend stopping in.

What we are trying to say is that we think if you like chicken, Canes is the place to go. They have the basics, and meet all our needs, and probably yours too. Our only recommendation is to order extra sauce, because you will want to put it on everything! Of course, we would give Cane’s chicken a rating of 10/10, and we would never get sick of it!

2024 Winter One Acts: Weekend two

By: Erin Moore

Last weekend, Highland Park Senior High School’s Theatre department performed its first weekend of Winter One Acts: five short plays filled with humor, drama, and talent. This weekend, six brand new one acts will be performed, each just as entertaining as those performed last weekend.

Performances will be January 26th at 7pm, January 27th at 2pm, and January 27th at 7pm. As there is an additional one act, the show will likely run longer than last weekend’s two hour performance. A brief intermission in the middle will allow audience members to purchase drinks, snacks, and merchandise, all for the benefit of the school’s theatre program.

Tickets for the Winter One Acts can be paid in either cash, card, or check. They are priced at $5 for students, $10 for adults, but are free for anyone currently with Nancy Michael as a teacher.

The student-directed one acts included this weekend are: ‘Alice and her Wonderland,’ ‘Zero Sum Mind,’ ‘We are the Sea,’ An Open and Shut Case,’ ‘Bad Auditions by Bad Actors,’ and ‘Murder in the Asylum.’

‘Alice and her Wonderland,’ written and directed by Bedeline Breninger, is “a fun small play about Alice and her wild adventures in a mysterious land, where she acquires a party of people trying to help her get back home to France.” This one act takes a whimsical spin on the classic ‘Alice in Wonderland.’

‘Zero Sum Mind’ is written by Stephen Gregg and directed by Esther Anderson and Jade Gaw. When told to summarize their one act, the directors said, “If you could only remember one thing, what would it be? In a world cursed with the zero sum mind, this is the most important question.” Biz Books says, “In a post-apocalyptic world our minds only have a finite amount of space. Every time we learn one thing, we forget something else. People try desperately to NOT learn things! How it came to be like that is the key to the story.”

Elodie Cummins and Evadne Pond direct Laura Lundgren Smith’s ‘We are the Sea.’ It is summarized by Playscripts.com as follows, “Norah, Una, and Iseult set sail from Ireland to escape the ravages of hunger, only to find a new set of dangers on their ocean voyage. The so-called ‘coffin ships’ are full of illness, squalor, and grief, and the passengers can rely only on one another and their memories for comfort. When a cruel, angry sailor refuses to show them mercy, it seems like even their stories might be lost. But they don’t know that the sea that swirls around the ship is listening. The sea remembers everything. And the sea demands justice. A poetic and striking historical drama with a hypnotic ocean chorus.”

‘An Open and Shut Case’ follows intermission, directed by Kaea Andrews and Lashia Lee and written by John Mattera. “Young, handsome Harold is married to elderly, wheelchair-ridden Elizabeth because of that age-old attraction—money. So naturally, Harold plans to murder her and inherit all that glorious money. He convinces Elizabeth that he can no longer tend to the big house by himself, and she reluctantly agrees to let him hire the people he claims are so urgently needed: a nurse/companion, to tend to Elizabeth’s needs; Lisa LaRouche, a housekeeper who says she does windows and whatever else needs to be done; Inga Slayton, a cook with a flair for preparing Scandinavian dishes; and Zachary Flood, an unkempt, uncouth groundskeeper. Who-done-it? Your audience will be shocked when they finally find out the answer.” The above description was found on Dramatic Publishing.

‘Bad Auditions by Bad Actors,’ directed by Bijou Kruszka and Alex Roepke, was written by Ian McWethy (the same author as last week’s ‘Appropriate Audience Behavior’). Playscripts’ description reads as follows: “A casting director has one day to find the leads for a community theater production of ‘Romeo and Juliet.’ But what seems like a simple task proves impossible when the pool of actors includes extreme method actors, performers who just don’t know what to do with their hands, and one particular woman who may or may not think she’s a cat. This hilarious comedy will bring you to the last place you’d ever want to be…behind the doors of a casting session.”

The final one act of the evening is ‘Murder in the Asylum,’ written by James Campbell, is directed by Abby Gustafson and Owen Jahn. Off the Wall Plays says, “It’s another day at Saint Woden’s Asylum. Another day and another mysterious murder has occurred in this absurd whodunit script. The patients at the asylum are dying like flies and nobody has a clue as to who’s knocking them off. In fact, it’s driving Doctor Mario von Woden a little round the twist himself. Let me rephrase that – he’s just very, very, very stressed. He’s most stressed that even the simple task of dictating a memo for the police is a struggle. When a policeman arrives at the asylum and starts interviewing patients and staff, who then die in a number of weird and wonderful ways, Doctor von Woden’s suspicions are aroused….”

These plays have taken a lot of hard work for the cast and crew, especially given that five other one acts were performed merely a week prior and this is the final week of the first semester. The best way to show appreciation and support for their efforts is attending these performances.

If you would like to participate in Highland Park’s theatre department, contact Nancy Michael, another person you know who’s already involved in theatre, check out @hptheatrearts on Instagram, or sign up for an audition via a poster in the hallways.

The theatre department’s next show will be the spring musical, ‘Beauty and the Beast.’ Performances will be from April 18-20 and auditions will be held on February 5th and 6th. Audition posters containing a signup QR code can be found throughout the school. If you’d rather be involved in tech crew or the pit orchestra, try contacting the theatre department in one of the previously listed ways.

Dthang Gz singles ranked

By: Judah Gregory

Daniel Collins, also known as Dthang Gz, is a Dominican American rapper from the Bronx, New York and is 20. He would make his first studio track in 2020 with his single “Caution” and has released 12 official songs. Until now, with him getting over 10 million views on just one video, he is one of the biggest rappers from New York and I’ll be ranking his official studio songs 1 through 10 from worst to best.

10# LIKE to start the list off “Like” is the number ten on this list; the reason being that this wouldn’t really be the high energy track he’s used to producing. With the changes in him rapping fast how he usually is, and it slowing down in this song , it isn’t bad. And the addition of Bando to the song was good, but not what I’m used to from him, so it’s placed here.

9# Wilding 4 Respect I liked the song but the reason it would be placed so low is because of Dthang only getting a few lines that I think were overshadowed by the other collaborators on the song. Face mob and Kay hound with their parts in the song having a better sound to them and just fit with their style more than his on the track.

8# Smooth Criminal this song would just be bad considering that it wasn’t a Dthang original song, but still being posted under his singles still makes it count. But Ace0 the collaborating rapper would use a lot of auto tune in the song that made his voice sound robotic and it just didn’t sound good in the song. But for Dthang, he would do fine just because he was on for the last 20 seconds, so him barely being in it and it just being bad is why it’s low.

7# Opponent The track opponent would be produced by ShoBeatz who would remix a popular beat which is a trend in New York rap. I liked in this song that he would come on the song matching the flow of it well, and even though it’s considered to be one of his lower songs in the general view, I think it’s a good track only being this low because of its 1:46 run time.

6# Bunny Hop This song would have a very high energy beat and would gain Dthang someTik Tok attention with his Bunny Hop dance that he does in the music video; hence the title “Bunny Hop”. In this song he would also collaborate with the Drillys once. The song was added to its ranking and it also being his first million view video.

5# Scene Now to start the top 5, I chose “Scene” because of the sound of the song and I just like it in general. There’s not too much to say about it because it’s simple and still is a good song overall.

4# Play It Back Dthang would come to this track with him rapping on a melodic drill beat which shouldn’t go good together and sound weird but Dthang rapping on this song would actually be a good balance between the two. With his more child voice it would fit well with the song because of his flow on this song and it would highlight his rapping abilities good.

3# Caution This song being ranked at my number three, with this being his first single ever released is great. His rapping on the song would sound like he knew what he was doing on the beat and it would bring a new sound to the New York scene, with his new take on drill starting with this song so it’s all the way up here.

2# GGZ Box My second favorite, and favorite single single, from Dthang is this song he would freestyle over a great beat and it was produced by DameE who is a good producer in general. So, this was set up to be a favorite and is all the way up here.

1# Talk Facts The number one single for me has to be this song. He collabs with Bando and Tdot who both go hard on the song, and the beat would fit perfect with the song, and just hearing it is obvious that this is his best single. And it’s one of the most popular out because of the contents in it.

‘The Lightning Thief’ review

By: Abisola Dosunmu

Image created wit Hotpot AI

The first two episodes of ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ were pretty fun to watch, and I am really excited to review it.

The set looked really pretty. The cabins looked straight out of my imagination. They all looked big and majestic, especially Percy’s cabin. There are green fields filled with campers going about their day, restocking weapons or training. The show really does a good job of transporting you into Camp Half Blood.

Walker Scobell, playing the role Percy Jackson, immediately brings Percy to life with his quick to miss, frustrated remarks. Aryan Simhadri plays Grover and is as lovable as his book counterpart. Leah Jeffries also looks good being the youngest of the actors, but her acting and delivery was a little stiff starting off. Later in the episode I could see a marked improvement as she grew more comfortable with her lines. The rest of the cast looks good too, but there’s still a lot to improve on, and the acting was a little rusty the first two episodes. Hoping this will improve in later episodes as the actors get more used to their roles.

Finally, the writing in this show was pretty tight considering there was a lot of action to pack in a thirty to forty minute episode, which left no time for fluff or filler. Which meant a lot of the scenes we saw in the book had to be cut out, which saddened a lot of PJO fans. The episode progresses in a rapid fire way, being that we are given some quick exposition on Percy, quickly introduced to him and Grover, then jumped right into it with him learning more about the world of Greek mythology. The dialogue is, like I said, quick or you miss it (like a bunch of stuff in the episode) with Scobell delivering it in a dry or deadpan way, similar to the way he did in ‘The Adam Project’.

The thing that disappointed me the most is that we only get the barebones of exposition; there’s little to no filler. I get why, because the directors were only given a short amount of time to deliver important scenes, but it gives off this energy of desperately trying to shove a few chapters worth into one episode and that energy is very apparent. Season two hasn’t been green lit so that definitely adds to the pressure to pack everything in.

All in all, I’d give the series an eight out of ten. The newcomers watching the show won’t notice a difference at all, and it’s both a nod to the fans that read the book, and a welcome to the ones that haven’t and are just discovering PJO. I think the adaptation accomplished what it wanted to.
