Waffle House
By: Jefferson Palma
Waffle House is located across America with around 1,900 locations with most of its locations in the South. It was founded on September 5th, 1955, by Joe Rogers Sr. and Tom Forkner. It is 2 years away from reaching its 70 year anniversary.
This casual dining restaurant has a service of being open for 24 hours/ seven days a week.
Waffle House has an unofficial index for government agencies to measure the conditions of a hurricane. As mentioned above, most of Waffle House is located in the South where hurricanes can hit. There’s a green sign, indicating that they can serve a full menu. Yellow sign meaning that they’re probably using a generator, or are low on supplies and cannot serve a full menu. And lastly, a red sign showing that the restaurant is closed and the storm is dire.
Waffle House is also known for its violence. According to ‘Rolling Stone’, Jessica Gantt, an employee, states that “I’ve had to clean up blood from the lobby area because people were cutting on each other. Just last week there were two shootings at Waffle Houses, one in Indianapolis and one in Dillon, South Carolina. I feel scared.”
For the employees they have to endure the threat of violence, minimum wage, and very short breaks.
Waffle House is famously known as a fight club in the social media world. There were many fight videos online that went viral. One employee was a ‘hero’ on the internet and was titled “Waffle House Wendy,” after she instinctively caught a metal chair that was thrown at her.
Having seen some of the Waffle House social media, it can be said that it is funny, and crazy, and that there is always some kind of argument or conflict going on.
Although the never closing diner has a crazy reputation of fights and a hurricane meter, the main website of Waffle House states, “Waffle House was founded on the principles of providing the friendliest service in town.”

‘For All the Dogs’
By: Oak Berg
Drake, the Canadian rapper, is known for his flow. with his blend of rap and R&B. With successful albums in his past and on the way, fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of his highly anticipated new album, “For All the Dogs.” However, this album has faced its delays, being delayed not once but twice. I will explain the reasons behind these delays and the impact it has had on Drake’s fanbase.
The first delay of “For All the Dogs” was surprising to many fans who had been waiting for the album’s release. Initially scheduled for the first week of September, it was pushed back because Drake needed time to perfect it. Drake needed additional time to perfect the album as the primary reason for its delay. This left fans disappointed and sparked curiosity about the quality and direction of the album.
As the new release date approached, it reached its peak. However, just when fans thought they would finally get to hear “For All the Dogs,” another delay was announced. This time, it was due to Drake wanting to finish his tours before releasing the album. Although it was thoughtful, his fanbase was not happy. Drake wanted to wait to promote and tour the album, leading to a second postponement.
These delays have tested the patience of Drake’s huge fanbase. But, they have also generated a sense of anticipation and excitement. The delays have amplified the greatness of album “For All the Dogs” and intensified fans’ desire to hear the finished album. Drake’s ability to maintain his status on top on the music charts, and generate songs even in the face of delays, speaks to his expanding popularity and loyal fans.
Other than the setbacks, the delays may ultimately work in Drake’s favor. They give him more time to refine his musical vision and guarantee that “For All the Dogs” meets the high standards fans have come to expect from him. Drake is known for his insane attention to detail and the quality of his work, and the delays may show his commitment to delivering a top hits album.
The delays of Drake’s new album, “For All the Dogs,” has been a reason of disappointment for fans waiting for its drop date. although, they have also expanded curiosity and excitement around the album. While the reasons behind the delays may be frustrating, they are helping Drake’s dedication to his craft and his desire to create the best possible body of work. As fans slowly await the album’s slow release, they can only hope that “For All the Dogs” will be worth the wait. DROPPING OCTOBER 6TH

‘Overcooked’ review
By: Natalia Gercheva & Persephone Pond
‘Overcooked’ is a cooperative multiplayer game (up to four players, split screen or online) in which you work together to cook delicious recipes for hungry customers. ‘Overcooked 1’ was released in August in 2016, and just 2 years later in 2018, the sequel came out. Over the course of these two years, and a few years after, Ghost Town Games, the developers of the ‘Overcooked’ games, steadily released extra levels to extend and provide more ‘Overcooked’ content. In this article, we will be analyzing and informing you about the levels, strategies, and overall story of these fun games.
The plotline In ‘Overcooked 1’ includes a giant spaghetti monster, an Onion King, and a dog named Kevin. In the prologue/tutorial level, you face the Flying Spaghetti Monster, but to your dismay, you and your fellow chefs are unable to feed him enough to extinguish his appetite. The Onion King and his loyal dog Kevin are present at this initial event, and when they see you’re losing, they teleport you back in time to improve your culinary skills in hopes you’ll be capable of conquering this ancient evil.
‘Overcooked 2’ starts off with the same Onion King and his dog Kevin, who discovered the Necronomnom-icon, an ancient cookbook full of evil curses and recipes. By reading from this book, the Onion King accidentally summons an army of undead bread: the Unbread. You and your fellow chefs must cook your way through the dystopian land in order to defeat the Unbread Army.
The games consist of a multitude of levels that change based on the theme of each recipe included. As you travel the lands, there are different biomes, and in each biome, the recipe you’re cooking changes. The game uses a 3 star point system and each level is timed, and your score coincides with how many stars you get on any given level. All your stars from prior levels add up, and some levels further on have specific star requirements for you to play, thus the importance of doing well. Each biome also includes a specialized type of obstacle, such as sliding counters or rotating platforms. There are also a few different game modes you can choose from, such as campaign, verses, and arcade.
There are 6 biomes in ‘Overcooked 1’, and for the most part, each biome consists of 6 levels, with a few exceptions. The first biome is a basic desert/restaurant, mostly for tutorial reasons. This biome consists of many rising and falling floors, which prove to be difficult. The recipes you make in this biome consists of soup and burgers, which are the more basic and simple recipes.
The second biome is a pirate ship, in which the recipes don’t change from the first biome. The pirate ships cause counters to slide back and forth, making it difficult to access cutting boards and ingredients.
The third biome is an ice-y sea, where the kitchen is on an iceberg. The icebergs are incredibly slippery, and it’s very difficult to move without falling into the water, in which case you die and take five seconds to respawn. The recipe for this biome is fish and chips.
The fourth biome is a dark forest, where the kitchen is located in a haunted mansion. You learn to cook pizzas, and continue practicing making burgers and soup. The counters love to fly around and block your path, making navigation frustrating.
The fifth set of levels is a trade off between a space station, and a lava filled volcano. The space station introduces a new obstacle, which is the passing of ingredients through a small room controlled by a button, and the lava level has you running across small bridges to get to parts of the kitchen, and you have to be careful to not fall into the lava. You learn how to make burritos.
The sixth and final set of levels is a bit different – you travel to the hardest kitchen from each biome stated, and the sixth level in the set is the boss fight, in which you cook everything you’ve learned, and (hopefully) defeat the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
In ‘Overcooked 2’ there are quite a few similarities and differences with the first game. There is less organization in terms of biome matching to the set of levels, as there are more biomes and variation in the second game. The new biomes consist of: a sushi restaurant with converter belts where you learn to make sushi, a hot air balloon where you learn the ways of pasta, rapids in which the kitchen is located on a raft where you make chicken and fries, the mines where you make burritos, a magical wizard world with portals where you make delicious pancakes and cakes, and an alien planet where you practice former recipes. There are also two swamp biome levels where you continue practicing the same recipes, while being faced with new obstacles such as wind pushing you.
Each set of levels consist of a variety of these biomes and recipes. In addition to these normal levels, ‘Overcooked 2’ provides an extra six levels which are secret and have to be unlocked. These levels are Kevin levels. Kevin, the dog, wants you to suffer greatly, as he introduces dumplings in very well designed kitchens that make these levels very difficult. These secret levels aren’t required for the completion of the game, but they’re a fun add on that makes the game fun.
Both ‘Overcooked 1’ and ‘Overcooked 2’ are available for purchase on Steam, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. You can buy these games separately, but there’s also a package deal, ‘Overcooked: All You Can Eat’, which includes both games and all sixteen DLCs.
The major difference between buying the two games separately and the package is that in ‘Overcooked: All You Can Eat’, you get twenty-two DLC packages, each containing six to ten new levels to play. With the extended package, you also get more and new chefs to play as, new game modes, and more versus levels. ‘Overcooked: All You Can Eat’ contains so much more material than the two games separately, the only downside is that ‘Overcooked 1’ tends to run easier. In the extended version, ‘Overcooked 1’ adapts some of the graphics and aspects of gameplay that makes it feel a bit easy compared to buying the game separately, which is much more challenging to play through. This is a minor difference, and it doesn’t affect the game other than a slight change in difficulty level.
Overall, the ‘Overcooked’ games are both great unique video game options to play. Working collaboratively with your friends to advance through levels in a non-violent, yet competitive atmosphere is a really fun experience. ‘Overcooked’ might just even teach you how to better communicate with your teammates, or teach you something about cooking too!
In the end, both ‘Overcooked’ games get a 10/10.
Highland soccer game at Allianz
By: Brennan McMahon
On Friday, October 6, both of the varsity soccer teams got the opportunity to play at the Allianz Stadium in St. Paul. This was a very cool opportunity for both teams because they got to play where the Minnesota Loons our professional soccer team plays.
The game is something that the Loons set up every year. Each year two of the seven SPPS schools get to play in the game which is named “The St. Paul Cup”. The team that we got paired up to play against is our biggest rival: Central High School. This caused it to be a very fun and exciting game.
None of this would be possible if the Minnesota Loons had not been willing to let teens get opportunities like this. The Minnesota Loons also donated $2,500 to each of the teams for them to buy things like new soccer balls and nets that we desperately need.
The girls game was very close and both Highland and Central did very well and the first half ended in a tie. The second half was also very exciting with both teams having many scoring opportunities, but both goalies played very well and didn’t let any goals in.
The game ended with a score of 0-0. The game then went to a penalty shootout which was very close, but Highland managed to win 3-2 with goals from Ellery, Greta, and Ava.
The boys game was very close and in the 38 minute, number 12 scored a free kick for Central, putting them in the lead 0-1. That was the only goal in the first half. Jonah Wriggly, one of the Highland goalkeepers, played a super good half.
In the 55 minute, Ayub scored for Highland on a penalty kick. Sadly, Central scored with 10 minutes left in the second half and won the game. Isaac Rappe, the other Highland goalkeeper, played really well also.
‘if he had been with me’ book review
By: Chloe Rocha
This article is a book review on the book ‘if he had been with me’ By Laura Nowlin. This book is a New York Times bestseller. This story is about autumn and it’s told from her perspective. You get to know everything about her life. Most of the story focuses on her time in high school and how she is dealing with the different things happening in her life, and how she’s managing her future goals with her boyfriend Jamie, their groups of friends, and trying to handle her complicated relationship with her former best friend and neighbor, Finny.
This book is full of ups and downs and it made me feel very different emotions. There were times in this book where I didn’t understand why we were told so much about the characters’ past and other details that didn’t seem important at the time. But after you complete the book and take some time to reflect on your emotions, you realize that all of that “unnecessary“information actually made the story much more tragic. You really understood Autumn as a very complex and well-rounded character because you got to witness and experience all that she went through. From the times when she was feeling the most happy to the times when she was feeling the most sad. You felt the same emotions she did because you were very attached to her at the time.
Autumn was my most liked character. It’s impossible not to love her after all the experiences we had together. Personally, I didn’t particularly like Jamie. He was very manipulative and controlling and someone who I wouldn’t want to have in my personal life.
At the beginning of the book something is revealed to you that in the moment has you wondering why the author decided to tell you about it. But at the end, it becomes clear on why the author did what she did. They told the story to make you assume something based on the information you had at the time, but by the end of the book the plot twist explains it all and leaves you with a sense of sadness. This sadness comes from the fact that you knew what was going to happen at the end of the book but you didn’t know the people that were all involved in the event.
I just discovered that another book is coming out in October. It will be told from Kenny’s perspective. I am very excited to have that book and I just hope it’s as good as everyone is saying it is. I didn’t read many good books this year, but this book is definitely one of the better ones. I definitely think everyone should read this book if they want a very emotional story. This book is not for the likes of everybody but a select few enjoy it based on their interests.
I would give it a 3.5/5 (it is a bit slow in the beginning).
Best state parks in Minnesota, and my personal favorites
By: Aliana Baumgardner-Romo
Minnesota has an impressive amount of state parks and beautiful things to see. Overall, there are 66 state parks which make up more than 235,000 acres of land, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Minnesota is also bordered by Lake Superior which offers quick access to the beautiful clear water and many of the parks beside it. Overall, a lot of Minnesota is forests, lakes, waterfalls and rivers, most importantly the Mississippi River.
The Mississippi river is the primary river and the second largest river in the world, and it starts here in Minnesota. It starts from lake Itasca and flows all throughout the United States into the Gulf of Mexico. One of the most known state parks in Minnesota is Itasca State park. I’ve been going to Itasca with my family ever since I was around 6 years old. In my opinion the park is very beautiful and it’s fun to swim in the river, especially with family. There’s many things to do, learn about, see and explore. Many people like to camp, fish, and visit a lot of the historical sites around. Overall, Itasca state park is one of the best in Minnesota for family trips.
Another personal favorite of mine is Gooseberry Falls which is located in Two Harbors, only 30 minutes away from Duluth. Gooseberry Falls is one of the most popular and most visited parks on the North Shore of Minnesota. The park includes 20 miles of hiking trails, scenic waterfalls, Lake Superior shoreline and many things to see. This is a favorite for me because it’s very family friendly, you can swim in the water and get relatively close to the waterfall. Overall, it’s very beautiful and offers a lot of hiking, it’s also close to Duluth which also offers a lot of beautiful trails and Lake Superior access.
There’re many state parks that offer Lake Superior access and views, although one of the prettiest is Tettegouche State Park. Located in Silver Bay, this park offers a beautiful scenic view 300 feet above Lake Superior. Along with 60-foot waterfalls, hiking, camping and rock climbing.
Besides rivers and lakes, Minnesota has many prairies and land to visit. One of the best places to explore is Glacial Lakes State Park, which provides access to hills and the clear water of the Signals Lake. It’s perfect for camping, swimming and provides many hiking trails for views of cone shaped hills and water-filled depressions.
Overall, Minnesota has a rich history that provides a lot of new things to learn about and explore. It’s home to a lot of prairies, lakes, rivers, forests, waterfalls and much more that allows scenic views and access to hiking trails.

‘Forever Story’ album review
By: Judah Gregory
Forever story is an album made by rapper JID. This album would be released on August 26, 2022 through Dreamville Interscope Records. This is his fifth album and a reference to his second album ‘The Never Story’. ‘Forever Story’ has 15 tracks but I will only be doing the first 10 because the rest are bonus songs. I will be going over them giving a summary about what they’re about and what I think of them.
Track 1: “Galaxy”
“Galaxy” is the first track of ‘Forever Story’ and was produced by Monte Booker. This song has the same lyrics as the intro to the ‘Never Story’ and follows the same spacey beat and flow even with the same ad libs.
The only change that I think came with the hype of this album is that it would get a skit at the end of it and it wouldn’t be the only skit of the album.
Track 2: “Raydar”
“Raydar” is the second track of the album and would be produced by a lot of people. Now, this song would take a complete change from the first track and would hit you with a loud aggressive beat immediately and an aggressive flow from JID as he would get on the track rapping about black people from their historical background to their modern position in the world now. But he also talked about how he’s trying to find a solution to try to change the status of how different people are seen and be united.
Track 3: “Dance Now”
“Dance Now” would be the third track and would only be produced by Christo and Avid. This song would have a more monotone but still hard beat with different vocals, and the beat changes with the trumpet in between made the song have a different flow and a change that I liked.
This track would also be his second, and my favorite of his singles on the album, and would also have a great chorus to the song.
Track 4: “Crack Sandwich”
“Crack Sandwich” is the fourth track of the album and was produced by Cardiac, Tbhits, Christo, Groove and Nami. “Crack Sandwich” has another pretty aggressive beat but this one is almost a little ominous. As JID raps hard about himself and his six siblings and over the course of the song he shows how good his wordplay is and how he can create it in his music. In the song he talked about how he and his siblings started a brawl in New Orleans and how his parents, who were hard on them, think that they would be proud that they stuck together and that their impulsiveness is what made their connections.
Track 5: “Can’t Punk Me”
This is the fifth song. “Can’t Punk Me” is very high action and has a fast sounding beat being produced by KAYTRANADA & JD Beck. In the song he raps about the experience that the protagonist is going through, and coming from a disadvantaged background had to overcome different things to become a poet, and have success with the chorus of the song being: “(I pulled out the bomb)” which I think is a metaphor for his bold demeanor.
Track 6: “Surround Sound”
This 6th song is widely viewed to be JID’s best single already. But with the remix coming onto this album with 21 Savage and Baby Tate made this song blow up immediately, and with its great beat, and the changes, and then them rapping in between, made it my favorite song on the album.
This song would actually be leaked in 2021 but only a few snippets of it.
Track 7: “Kody Blu 31”
The third to last song, and the seventh song of this album, is “Kody Blu 31”. This song is dedicated to JID’s friend’s son named Kody. He was a football player and wore number 31 but he died at a young age. This song talks about him trying to help Kodys family “keep swinging” or just keeping their head up and moving. The beat on this song is more melodic which fits for the song.
Track 8: “Bruddanem”
This is the eighth song of this album and features Chicago rapper Lil Durk. This song is all about their brothers and their strong relationship with them and saying that they would do anything for each other.
I also have a lot of brothers so this is a song I could make a connection to. This also is just a good song with more of a calm flow to it.
Track 9: “Sistanem”
This is the 9 track and the second to last song I will be talking about. This song is completely dedicated to JID’s sister, who is one of the most influential and important people to him. I like how the song is set up with each verse after the chorus describing the evolution of their relationship. This song has the same beat as “Bruddenem” just inverted, but still sounded just as good as the original.
Track 10: “Can’t Make You Change”
Track ten and the final track I will be talking about is “Can’t Make You Change” and this song was produced by Quincy Jones, Elite, Bass Charity, Christo, and A.J. This song talks about not being able to change people and how hard it is to make people change out of their set ways.
I like how he raps with Ari singing in the back of it and the whole song is nice.
So, I think this is JID’s best album out of the five. Overall, I’d give it a 9/10.
Apple’s bestselling iPhone to date: iPhone 6
By: Manuel Avalos Mateos
On September 9, 2014, Apple revealed their eighth generation iPhone: the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. They were released on September 19. The iPhones received both positive and negative reviews from critics and customers. Within the first 24 hours of preorders becoming available, over 4 million preorders for the iPhones were made, which far exceeded the supply that was available. In the very first three days, ten million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units were sold.
The new iPhones introduced a new larger screen which users had previously hoped for in the iPhone 4 and 5. It had a new design and featured Touch ID on both devices. It had antenna strips on the back and a brand new display branded as “Retina HD Display”.
The iPhone 6 had a 4.7 inch display and the iPhone 6 Plus had a 5.5 inch display, making it the largest at the time. Both phones had the ability to shoot 1080p video at 30 and 60 fps and slow motion video at 720p at either 120 or 240fps.
The iPhone models are one of the thinnest iPhones to date. This of course, came with it’s own issues.
The iPhone 6’s are famous for their hardware issues. Users were quick to notice how easily the iPhone 6 Plus was able to bend. In a video which can be found on the YouTube channel “Unbox Therapy” they put the iPhone 6 Plus to the test to see how easy it was to bend the phone with bare hands. The video currently has nearly 75 million views. Users also reported the phone bending in their pockets when they went to sit down. The frame was designed to be light and thin and this caused the phone to bend nearly 3 ½ times easier than the iPhone 5. Famously known as Bendgate, some suggest Apple had already been aware of this issue before launch, but never decided to address it.
Regardless of the many issues it had, they are currently the best selling iPhones Apple has ever made to date. Total sales of around 223 million units globally.
